Wangim Walk - Wave Attenuator

Geelong’s new $10.1 million, 440m Wave Attenuator is now open, being a major milestone in the Geelong Waterfront Safe Harbour Precinct Project.

Named after the Wadawurrung language for Boomerang, Wangim Walk stretches out over Corio Bay to form one of Australia’s longest on-water walkways, providing safe harbour to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and allowing the public to walk on water.

Funded under the $370 million Geelong City Deal, this project is funded and supported by the Australian Federal Government, Victorian State Government and City of Greater Geelong as well as the Royal Geelong Yacht Club.

Wangim Walk is protected with a safety gate installed at the start of the landmark, allowing the attraction to be closed when the weather turns dangerous.

6am to 10pm, pending weather conditions.

FAQs

Is fishing allowed on Wangim Walk? 

Yes, fishing is allowed, except in the signed designated helicopter flight path area.

Can vessels park inside the area of the attenuator?

Vessels are able to enter the protected area but cannot enter the Fishermen’s Basin boat berthing area or the RGYC Marina.

Can visitors leave a vessel moored on Wangim Walk for the day? 

Visiting vessels are able to moor along Wangim Walk for the day to explore Geelong.

Can vessels stay overnight and if not, what time do they need to depart in the evening? 

Visiting vessels must leave Wangim Walk by 10pm. If vessels are wishing to stay overnight, please contact RGYC office to organise via 5229 3705 or 0418 524 867 or email info@rgyc.com.au.

Are push bikes allowed on Wangim Walk?  

Yes, but please proceed with caution as it is a dual usage area.
